With a failed electrical system, the church of St Michael, Camden Town, required complete re-wiring to make it safe and allow the church to realise their ambitions for worship and mission.
HMDW Architects were approached by the church to act as consultants for the grant-funded project led by Bruce Kirk of Light Perceptions. By providing a conservation-accredited Architect, the rewiring proposals were monitored to reduce their impact on the historic fabric.
The revitalised interior features a customisable lighting system – fully controllable from a tablet computer, but also easily managed from re-programmable light switch panels.
The LED fittings both conserve energy and limit the maintenance burden of a full lighting scheme on the church.
Hidden behind the interior transformation were a series of access improvements introduced by HMDW to make maintenance of the high-level areas of the church easier.
